To a Jehovah's Witness truth is whatever their god the Watchtower Society tell them it is. If the Watchtower changes one of their beliefs, even a major one like the 1914 generation not passing away which was foundational Witnesses ignore the reality of what has just happened and wholely embrace the new truth.
I know Witnesses refer to the Watchtower's past teaching as "old light" but do they ever refer to them as former truths? It is very strange how they can have example after example pointed out to them where the Watchtower has been wrong and yet have full confidence in what they are presently being taught. I guess it is all part of having your brain thoroughly washed.
the wt claims to be like the original christians of the first century.. if that is true, then it would be obvious to all that they follow the examples given in these two scriptures below:.
acts 2:45 "they sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.".
acts 4:35 "there were no needy persons among them.
Any Witness in need financial assistance needs to send a written request to the charitable branch of the Watchtower. Be sure to include the acronym for the department's name "F.U." in the address on the envelope.
so, there we all are in the break room in my place of work, and the topic turns to the holiday shopping madness.
this co-worker starts to say how expensive this holiday season has been for him and that he's still not done, and too bad when the day comes the family members will find fault or something else wrong with his gifts, and to make things worst, that the wife also was purchasing gifts with his credit card so he feared the january statement.. so, i jokingly told him that one way he can remedy that is by telling his family that he's been studying the bible and that he won't be celebrating christmas this year as he's studying to become a jw.
they all laughed loudly and the guy, second by others in the room, told me that i just didn't know how good i had it being a jw this time of the year.
I hope you realize your coworkers were just kidding around with you DY. Not too many people would want to trade a little credit card enslavement for life long enslavement to a book publishing cult.

I think there comes a time in every JW's life where a light goes on and they realize that their being feed a load of crap. Sadly a lot of them don't have the courage to take a stand like you did and free themselves so they spend the remaining years of their lives ignoring their doubts and acting as if all is well. It sounds to me like your father reached that point but decided try to ignore all the warning signs that something was very wrong in the Tower and keep on going.
When you're a JW and feel like you just can't go on any further my advice is first turn around then put one foot in front of the other and then keep going. It gets easier after a few steps. Then run like hell! You'll be glad you did.
i attended the todays wt study and got notice of the illustration of jesus doing away capitol hill and barack obama.. i think the illustration passed the juridical advisors of the wts, having a blackout!

my dad has been in since 1967, been df'd five times but always came back.
today i hinted that my kids had bought him something and he replied that he would like a chistmas list for the kids, and he is going to try and come up from sc for christmas.

Good for your father. I'm wondering if he is a JW in good standing right now because if he is celebrating Christmas could take him to number 6 in df'ings. . He could retire from the JWs holding a record that would be very tough for anyone to beat.

How about a Waiting on Jehovah Calendar? It would be something like one of those Advent Calendars where every day you open a little door and get a piece of chocolate till Christmas Day. That way Jehovah's Witness would get something every day for waiting on Jehovah. The longer they have to wait the more chocolate they get! It might not seem like much but it is more than they are getting now.
